How to find and build a huge list of targeted keywords to promote your product or service. Did you notice the word targeted? This makes a big difference and we will discuss this in detail as we go. Keywords are one of the main ingredients when promoting a product. With the wrong keywords, or untargeted keywords, you will get no visitors or traffic to your site unless you use pay per click search engines, where in that case the wrong keywords can get you lots of visitors and traffic with no sales resulting in lots of lost revenue. But you may say, what do you mean by keywords? I'm sure you probably know, but just in case... keywords are what you enter into a search engine when looking for a product. For instance, say you are looking for baby shoes. So you go to google and type the keyword "baby shoes" into the search box. You then are shown thousands of results for the keyword term, "baby shoes". So, a keyword, keyword term, or keyword phrase(s) is the word or words used to find your product, service or website within the search engines. Now let's go through an example: The following part of a line of products from a company called Corel Corporation. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite After researching the market I decided on a couple of the products above, specifically "paint shop pro" and "video studio". You can do this with the other products as well, but let's run with one of these. For the purpose of this tutorial, let's go with VideoStudio... I like this one. Click on this link and pull up the free google keyword tool and in the box that says "Enter one keyword or phrase per line", let's type in the keyword "video studio ". Scroll down to the bottom of the first keyword list and click on "Add all 150" (Add all 150 was the the number at the time I placed my search. It may or may not be different.) Now scroll up and you will see that it saved all of the keywords and keyword phrases in the right hand column. At the bottom of the keyword list that you just added to the right hand column, click on the link that says "text" and a box will pop up allowing you to "Open" or "Save" the keyword list to your computer. I like to click "Open" and view the keywords. Here is the list that I got: 20 20 video studio city Now we need to remove all of the untargeted keywords from our list. What I mean is to remove any keyword or keyword phrase that is not specifically related to my specific product. For example:
After removing the untargeted keywords I am left with the following. However, don't just throw away the other keywords, save them in a different notepad and label them as negative keywords. Here is my edited list of keywords that I will keep to promote VideoStudio. These are my targeted keywords. professional video studio ---------------------------------- One thing to remember - many times the keyword tools don't always provide all of the different variations of a keyword. It sometimes groups singular and plurals together as the same keyword. Also, they sometimes don't list keywords in the proper order. For example, let's take the keyword "video studio plus " from the list. The keyword tool may see it the same as "studio video plus " or "video plus studio ". So you need to make sure YOU take care of getting all of the different variations for that keyword, because even though one search engine may view them as all the same, some search engines sees them as different keywords. And naturally, if you don't have those keywords within those search engines then you will not receive any traffic from those search engines for those specific keywords. Many times this can be the difference in making a little money, profiting big money, or making no money at all. It's simply being very thorough, and if you want to succeed highly in this business, then you need to take the time and be as completely thorough as you possibly know how. Take a little time now to make a lot of money later. It really pays off. I can't stress that enough. Be thorough! So how do you get all of the variations? Lets take the keyword phrases "video studio plus " and "videostudio plus" and brainstorm them. So let's expand on that. I would begin by writing this in my spreadsheet of keywords:
And keep on and on. You can do this for every keyword phrase that you target. You also need to remember that when searching for products on the internet, many people will not put a space in between the keywords such as:
When I entered the keyword videostudioplus into the free google keyword tool, there was a low volume of people which searched with that keyword the previous month, but there wasn't hardly any competition on the keyword. And even better! At the time of this writing, when I performed a search at google.com for the keyword "videostudioplus" there is only two other paid advertisements showing up for that keyword at google. The thing is, there are thousands upon thousands of keywords just like that out there you can find, but only if you will take the time to be very thorough as I stated before. Also, don't forget mispellings such as "vidoe studio plus" and "video studio plus". You have to remember that most people cannot spell very good. ----------------------------------- There are many other keyword research tools and services that you may find helpful as well when you're ready. But if you're just starting out, the Free Google Keywords Sandbox Tool is a great place to start. Since you know how to find targeted keywords, you now need to go gather a complete list. Don't just stop with the list above. You need to expand on that big time. For instance, go to the corel.com web site, look at the video studio plus product and see what that product specializes in. Some of the things I see on the Video Studio Plus page at their web site which I may would want to use as keywords would be the following: dvd authoring software Once again you go through the entire process. Enter them into the google keyword tool. Get the list, edit the list, place the untargeted keywords in a different notepad to use later, get your mispellings, create keywords without spaces and so on. When done correctly you should have a huge list of targeted keyword for your niche with which to build your site around which can bring you many visitors for a long time to come. |
